Have an animal-mad summer!

The sun is shining and it’s nearly the summer holidays – yay!

So, when the weather’s nice, why not take some time out to look at the types of wildlife around you – this might be in your garden, when you’re out for a walk or even when you’re on holiday.

BumblebeesWildlife spotter

Why not design a little chart of all the British wild animals and insects you can think of and then tick them off, once you’ve spotted them. You could include foxes, squirrels, hedgehogs, badgers, deer, bees and butterflies. Can you think of any others? Maybe take a photo and draw any footprints that you see too.

Down at the beach

If you’re off to the beach, check out the rockpools to see what you can find. Remember though, don’t touch any of the animals or fish living there, but maybe take a photograph and then draw them when you get home. Why not check out the birds you see – I bet you lose count.

Day tripper

Ah, a picnic is a great way to get friends and family together and maybe even play games in the park. Eating yummy food is great too, but just a little reminder from all my friends – please don’t drop litter as it can be dangerous for wildlife like us. So, if there isn’t a bin nearby, please take your rubbish home.

Grass Snake

Yes our slithery friends love the summer. The most common are grass snakes, which are usually olive-green, with a distinctive yellow/black collar behind the head. They’re great swimmers and are usually found near water (like garden ponds). Don’t worry – they’ll do you no harm and will probably slither away quickly if you’re nearby. In fact, you would be very, very lucky to even see a snake!

So, enjoy the summer and let us know what you’ll be getting up to…

Oh, hello there. I'm Leonardo. Don't call me Leo. I love a good mystery - that's why I'm your man when it comes to lists and reviews. I just love to snoop around! That's how I ended up getting my antlers caught in a football net all those years ago. I'm just fine now though.

For Christmas me and my friends are planning a fundraising event with people from our school’s art club and we would like to appear in animal action… How do we fill out the form on the action for animals page, do we need everyone’s parent’s signatures as some people are 13 and 14 years old…?
Please reply soon, thank you! ☺

Hi catz_rock, that sounds great! If you are sending in a photo we need a parental signature for everyone please. Even the 13 and 14-year-olds because you have to be over 16 to not need parental consent to have your photo printed. Thanks for fundraising for us!
