Stop the puppy traffickers!

Puppy trafficking is big businessSick, underage and dying puppies are being illegally imported to the UK to be sold for lots of money. You can help stop this terrible trade.

Traders don’t think about the welfare of the puppies or their parents, who are used as breeding machines, all they’re interested in is the money.

Big business

Puppy trafficking is big business. Dealers pay no attention to laws in the UK because they think nothing will be done! So, they illegally import lots of popular pure-bred (pedigree) puppies from the European Union (EU) and make huge profits.

Many of these puppies are too young to be separated from their mothers and haven’t had the right vaccinations against diseases. Some puppies die in transit and many become ill or die shortly after being sold, leaving their owners heartbroken and left with massive vet bills.

If you’re thinking of buying a puppy…
  • Research the best place to get a puppy from.

  • Never buy a puppy under eight weeks of age.

  • Always see the puppy at least once with its mother in the place where the puppy was born.

  • Never buy from someone who offers to deliver the puppy, or meet you somewhere with the puppy.

  • Check vaccination certificates and other documents carefully; dealers often fake documents.

  • Be wary of buying any puppy said to be born in another country.

  • Is the puppy bright and alert or lethargic and nervous? If something doesn’t seem right, it probably isn’t so just walk away and call the RSPCA immediately on 0300 1234 999.

Second chance
The RSPCA has lots of puppies looking for a loving new home.

The RSPCA has thousands of dogs that need a second chance after they have been let down by their owners. If you’re thinking of getting a dog, why not give one of our rescued dogs a chance at happiness? Visit our website to find your forever dog.

Hello my name is Sarah. I put together animal action magazine (with the help of Dougal, my gorgeous cockerpoo pooch!). I also have two cats - Coco and Tom. Dougal LOVES Coco, but is a bit scared of Tom. He knows what Tom's claws can do! I love all animals so working for the RSPCA is perfect for me. I can't wait to start talking to you all over this brilliant blog! 🙂
