Sick, underage and dying puppies are being illegally imported to the UK to be sold for lots of money. You can help stop this terrible trade.
Traders don’t think about the welfare of the puppies or their parents, who are used as breeding machines, all they’re interested in is the money.
Puppy trafficking is big business. Dealers pay no attention to laws in the UK because they think nothing will be done! So, they illegally import lots of popular pure-bred (pedigree) puppies from the European Union (EU) and make huge profits.
Many of these puppies are too young to be separated from their mothers and haven’t had the right vaccinations against diseases. Some puppies die in transit and many become ill or die shortly after being sold, leaving their owners heartbroken and left with massive vet bills.
If you’re thinking of buying a puppy…
Research the best place to get a puppy from.
Never buy a puppy under eight weeks of age.
Always see the puppy at least once with its mother in the place where the puppy was born.
Never buy from someone who offers to deliver the puppy, or meet you somewhere with the puppy.
Check vaccination certificates and other documents carefully; dealers often fake documents.
Be wary of buying any puppy said to be born in another country.
Is the puppy bright and alert or lethargic and nervous? If something doesn’t seem right, it probably isn’t so just walk away and call the RSPCA immediately on 0300 1234 999.
