What do you get when your cross a toad with some decking?

Toad (1)A job for the RSPCA!

RSPCA inspector Jason Finch, to be exact, who was called to a Norwich garden to rescue the poor toad.

Inspector Finch said: “It didn’t take me long to spot the little legs sticking out of a gap in the wooden decking, waving around in the air. I knew I had to get the little guy out as soon as possible, he must have been very uncomfortable.”

Just as the inspector was about to free the toad it managed to wriggle and squeeze right through the gap, so it was then completely trapped underneath the decking!

Toad rescue Jason FinchThere was no choice but to saw through the wood, which the owners kindly agreed to and the toad was lifted to safety.

Free at last!

Inspector Finch said: “He was the biggest, fattest toad I have ever seen! I can only think he was after a nice fly or a juicy bug when he decided to stick his head down the gap. I released him near the garden pond and watched him hop off to where he belongs – all in all a very successful rescue.”

Great work inspector Finch, we think you’re toadily amazing!

Have you ever seen a toad in your garden?

Hi, I'm Sarah and I look after our fantastic junior membership. I've been at the RSPCA for seven years and I've loved every minute. There are so many dogs around the office - it's great to get to know them all! I love animals and used to have five amazing pet rats. And, in case you didn't know, rats are possibly THE best pet. Well to me anyway. I don't have a favourite animal though - I think they're all amazing. I've even started to like spiders a bit more, weird I know! The thing I enjoy most is seeing animals in their natural habitat - to me there's not much more thrilling than that.
