Why not jazz-up a plain white T-shirt?
What you need
White cotton T-shirt
Plastic bowl or bucket
- 113g salt
- 568ml hot tap water
- Wooden spoon
Tin of cold water dye (you choose the colour)
Packet of cold fix (this prevents colour from running when you wash your T-shirt)
Helpful tip: Cover your work area with large plastic bags or old newspapers and keep some paper towels handy!
Wash the T-shirt and work with it damp. Pinch the centre into a cone shape. Now wind an elastic band tightly around the top of the cone. Add more rubber bands at intervals until you reach the end of the cone.
Fill the container with enough cold water to cover the T-shirt. Follow the mixing instructions on the dye and add to the container. Dissolve the salt and cold fix in hot water and add to the container.
Put the T-shirt into the container and stir around with a wooden spoon. Keep stirring for about 10 minutes to make sure that the dye gets into the folds. Then stir every now and then for the next 50 minutes.
Lift the T-shirt out of the dye mix and rinse it really well in cold water. Take the elastic bands off and wash the T-shirt in soapy water.
Hang it up to dry and, in no time at all, it will be ready to wear!
