Hallowe’en is just around the corner
So, why not scare your friends and family with some spooky cakes?
What you need
- Ready-made small plain sponge cakes
- 200g icing sugar
- Warm water
- Small amount of chocolate powder
- Ready-made icing in tubes
- Mixing bowl
- Wooden spoon
- Round-ended knife
- Cocktail sticks
Tip: Buy plain, small sponge cakes, or make your own, using a pack of cake mix.
Put the icing sugar into the mixing bowl and add a little warm water. Mix with the wooden spoon, adding a little more water at a time until you have a thick, creamy consistency.
Use the knife to spread the white icing over half of the cup cakes. Leave to one side. Add the chocolate powder to the rest of the icing. Mix well and use to ice the rest of the cakes.
When the icing is dry, squeeze the ready-made tube icing in circles, starting with a small circle in the middle and making the circles bigger towards the outside edge.
Before the icing has a chance to harden, take the cocktail stick and carefully drag straight lines from the middle to the outside edge. This creates the spider web effect!
If you don’t fancy decorating scary cakes, why not make some yummy butterfly cakes instead?
