Black cat Barney back with his family after three months
Owner Cheryl says: “We were so upset when our beloved Barney went missing three months ago. We searched high and low. Then when I was out one day my neighbour called to say the RSPCA had turned up at my house – with Barney – I couldn’t believe it!
“I dashed back home straight away. He’s been home a week and a half now and he’s the most well fed cat ever! I’m just so grateful to everyone who helped get him back to us.”
Cheryl and her family had recently moved house. She says: “We think Barney must have gone out a bit further than usual, got a bit lost and somehow picked up a familiar scent or sight and made his way back to our old house a mile and a half away.”
Out of the cold
Luckily, someone who found Barney pawing at their window on a really cold night thought something must be wrong, so let him into the warm and called the RSPCA.
RSPCA animal collection officers Kate Wright and Dennis Lovell went to pick up Barney and got his owner’s details by scanning his microchip.
Kate says: “The family had tried everything to find Barney. If he hadn’t been chipped we couldn’t have reunited them! It was also great that they’d updated the address details on his microchip as lots of people forget to do this when they move.”
Cheryl adds: “We took Barney straight to the vet for a check-up, but thankfully he was absolutely fine. He’s home with his brother Ollie now. We’ve had them both since they were kittens, so we’re all totally thrilled to have him back.”
