Eagle-owl found in Cardiff back garden

A West Rise resident, in the Llanishen area of Cardiff, was very surprised to find this majestic Eurasian eagle-owl in their back garden one morning recently – casually perched on the back of their garden bench!

‘Missing’ appeal

The eagle-owl is wearing jesses, which show that the bird is owned by somebody, and RSPCA Cymru is appealing for information as to who may be missing their owl.

The RSPCA went to the scene, to rescue the bird securely. RSPCA Animal Collection Officer Gary Lucas says: “It must have come as a huge surprise to this household to find an eagle-owl sat on a bench in their garden! We’re really keen to trace the owner and return this beautiful bird home.

Gary adds: “If anyone ever spots a bird of prey – like this eagle-owl – in difficulty, please don’t try to handle them yourself – contact the RSPCA.”
