Why not get snapping over the summer?!
Here are some top tips for getting a great shot!
You don’t have to jet off on an exotic holiday (although that would be nice!). Many of last year’s finalists snapped their images locally – pets at home, wildlife in parks, gardens and streets. You really don’t have to go far to get a great picture.
Keep it simple!
Try to position the image so you cut out anything distracting in the background. Gideon Knight’s photo A stab in the dark focuses attention on the egret as it fishes in a shallow canal. And that was voted 16–18 Years category winner and overall winner!
Tell a story
However, having objects in the background can help build a story. Gideon’s commended portfolio focuses on animals in London and the urban setting helps to describe the scene.
You just never know when a good photo opportunity might appear, so keep a camera or phone handy when you’re out and about with your family and, most importantly, have fun!
And our final top tip for landing a great picture? Clean the lens!
