Birds and netting – a deadly combination

Have you ever walked down the street and seen a bird entangled or trapped behind netting on a building – or under a bridge?

I work in the wildlife department and was shocked to learn how many calls our national call centre receives about birds and netting;

  • The RSPCA received 2,013 reports of birds trapped in netting in 2012 and 9,907 reports from 2008 to 2012, averaging out at around 2,000 per year.

Pedigree Dogs Exposed – five years on…


Today marks the fifth anniversary of the airing of ‘Pedigree Dogs Exposed’ a groundbreaking documentary which exposed the health and welfare problems facing many pedigree dogs due to the way they are bred placing looks above health and welfare.

The RSPCA has produced a report which outlines the progress which has been made and what still needs to be done to protect the welfare of dogs.

Lola the Staffy

Earlier in the year we ran a competition on Twitter, for RSPCA Week, to find the country’s happiest pet. We asked for pictures and videos of pets that showed their truly happy side.

We had an overwhelming response, with over 450 entries in a week! There were so many great entries we couldn’t possibly decide which one was the best. So we asked you to vote for the image or video that you liked the most.
