Where our food comes from is a hot topic, and people have lost trust in pre-prepared food – especially after the horsemeat scandal which hit the media in May this year.

Although it might be as much to do with the fact that I’ve moved house and now have a bigger kitchen, I’ve certainly been cooking from scratch much more frequently in recent months. As a result, I’m constantly on the look-out for new recipes.

Fireworks fear

Fireworks can be a source of fear for many animals. It doesn’t have to be that way. Follow our top tips to help make celebrations less frightening for your pet.

A place of safety

  • Make sure your pet has somewhere safe to hide. Don’t try to tempt them out whilst they hide there.
  • Partly cover outside pet housing with blankets, but make sure your pet is able to look out.
  • Provide smaller pets with extra bedding for burrowing.

Rabbits: still getting a raw deal

Rabbits constantly surprise me. For example I recently learnt that pet rabbit’s honk, growl, sigh, cluck and squeal. Who knew that rabbits’ honk? And why? Is it a happy noise, a demand for attention or something else entirely?

The more I learn about rabbits, the more I realise what incredibly intelligent and complex creatures they are. Rabbits need an environment that is stimulating and safe, company to ensure they don’t become lonely, a balanced diet and regular health checks … continue reading ››
