What does Brexit mean for animal welfare?

As you all are aware, the UK narrowly voted to leave the European Union in June. We must now campaign to ensure that animal welfare is not compromised as part of the process to leave the EU, and ensure we take all opportunities to improve existing animal welfare standards.

Dogs, fish, guinea pigs, rabbits, rats and mice are just some of the four million animals currently being used for research in the UK every year.

Sadly, many lab animals experience suffering that UK law categorises as ‘mild’, ‘moderate’ or ‘severe’. All animal suffering matters to us, but the ‘severe’ category is of particular concern.
